As the United States tries to shift its resources to rebuild Iraq in the American image, our efforts are on the verge of
spinning out of control. Iraqis awaiting word of how America will deem best to rebuild their country are increasingly skeptical and hostile. Shiites amassed in Karbala for the first time in a quarter-century only to call for the quick exit of American occupiers. In fact, the only thing that's uniting the different factions in Iraq is their fears of Bush's colonial government. Their fears are made even more real when you consider that the Pentagon is planning to occupy four military bases for long-term American use. Rumsfeld, of course, denies this plan--though he says it is "logical." It isn't logical, but it is the next step in Bush's brave plan to enrage the world. But hey, we're too busy bringing in Pizza Hut and Burger King for our troops to worry about little things like law and order and world opinion. |
